About Jobbly

Jobbly didn’t begin as a startup idea or a business plan.

Nearly 20 years ago, while working as a nightclub manager, I found myself managing more than 20 staff members across multiple operational areas — from entrance staff and bars to waiting staff and cloakroom operations. Like many businesses at the time, we relied heavily on spreadsheets, printed schedules, and constant manual coordination to keep everything running smoothly.

Because I was teaching myself PHP and web development at the time, I decided to build a small internal website to help manage the rota and day-to-day staff operations more efficiently. It was basic, rough around the edges, and nowhere near what Jobbly is becoming today — but it solved real operational problems.

The system stored up-to-date employee contact information, generated printable rota sheets, archived schedules, and helped staff coordinate shift swaps more easily. It reduced repetitive admin work, simplified coordination, and ultimately saved a significant amount of time for the business. Even after I left, the system continued to be used for years.

More than a decade later, someone who had previously worked under my management reached out to me about the software. By that point, she had gone on to manage two large nightclub venues herself — and she still remembered how useful the system had been. She asked whether I still had it.

That conversation became one of the biggest turning points behind Jobbly. It reminded me that the operational problems I had experienced years earlier still existed, and that even the rough early version of the system had created real value for the people using it.

The idea behind Jobbly has continued evolving ever since. The name itself was created back in 2017, but the goal has always remained the same: building workforce management software that genuinely helps businesses save time, reduce operational friction, and simplify the realities of running teams day-to-day.
